HCL 3: Fresh Out of Ideas was the third mixed martial arts event held by the Human Cockfighting League. The event took place on Sunday, June 24, 2012 from the Tupelo Events Center & Honey Warehouse in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Event
This event featured six sanctioned mixed martial arts bouts, all of which consisted of three five-minute rounds.
The first fight of the even earned Fight of the Night honors, as Dwayne De Recha overcame Andrew Harvard, escaping his first round ground-and-pound dominance and scoring an early head kick, and dropping him with a second one later in the round to score the TKO win. The second fight displayed the dominance of Australian Paul Bunyip, as he used his reach to neutralize Montpelier "Monty" Nash, landing strikes at will until knocking him to the ground with a high kick for another TKO win in an impressive debut.
The third fight of the night saw the Knockout of the Night award winner, as Aaron "Baby" Blue was able to withstand several heavy strikes from Alexander Thorax, before reversing into mount and knocking out Thorax with a left hook. The first fight to go the distance happened in the fourth fight, as Victor Young dominated early on to defeat the submission specialist Peter Oliveira.
In the co-main event, Johan Ponce went the distance with DeAndre Combs, to win by unanimous decision. However, it was the main event that made history in the HCL. Curtis Prancer scored the first submission victory in HCL history, by tapping out Rupert Takamura with an second round arm triangle. Takamura put in a good effort, controlling the game on the ground for a while, but ultimately left himself vulnerable to the choke.
Notes
HCL 3 was the last of three shows to feature all 12 fighters making their debut.
During the broadcast, it was announced that the next two shows would feature championship tournament quarterfinals, featuring winners from the first two shows, as well as wild cards.
